Broken Things Lyrics

If grace is a kingdom
I’ve stopped at the gate
Thinking I don’t deserve to pass through after all of the mistakes I’ve made
But I heard a whisper
As Heaven bent down
Said, “Child, don’t know you that the first will be last and the last get a crown.”

Now I’m just a beggar in the presence of a King
I wish I could bring You so much more
But if it’s true You use broken things
Then here I am Lord, I am all Yours

The pages of history they tell me it’s true
That it’s never the perfect; it’s always the ones with the scars that You use
It’s the rebels and the prodigals; it’s the humble and the weak
The misfit heroes You chose
Tell me there’s hope for sinners like me

Grace is a kingdom
With gates open wide
There’s seat at the table just waiting for you
So, come on inside

  • Annaleah says:

I though my 3 year old daughter only knew “Let it go” from the movie Frozen until this song came on the radio the other day. She began singing during the chorus and belting out “OHHH OHH OHH” when that part came on. It reminded me again how much her little ears hear and why listening to radio stations like this is important to me and my family. Now whenever I hear this song it gives me goose bumps! “The misfit hero’s You chose tell me there’s hope for sinners like me.” Every line in this song is beautiful!

    2. Robert Muhlhausen says:

As I walk with God, I find something new to learn, understand, take in, enjoy, and be grateful for. I can use and/or carry with me for the rest of my life. And, I GET to carry more from God each day because His yoke really is easy and His burden is light.
I saw Matthew West at the Washington State Fair where God introduced me to “Broken Things”. I now have new favorite song to carry with me. Thank you.

    3. Carly Viland says:

It’s a great reminder that God can use all of us for His glory, no matter how broken we think we may be.
Glad it was encouraging to you!

  • Kara Maggard says:

My family does a Monday night bible study at our house. This past Monday a friend that normally comes was struggling with the fact that “Jesus really does love him the way that he is”. I sent text messages of reassuring truth about who Jesus is as did all the other friends who were in the texting stream. I sent him the song and told him to listen to it. He messaged back and said it made him cry. He showed up at the Bible study that night after sorting through Acts 5. The conversation got started and my 19 year old son led him to Christ and we baptized the friend in our bath tub! Thank you so much Matthew West for that song! It moved mountains for us on Monday night at Bible study. I am a worship leader at my church and I’m praying that the Lord allows me time to do a couple of run thrus of the song to sing it in church on Sunday. I’m expecting God to do bigger things through that song!

  • Franco says:

When I first heard the beginning of the lyrics, I didn’t understand why he would stop at the gates, but as I read and heard on, I realize that we sometimes believe we don’t deserve to enter into the Kingdom of grace. God loves us all.

    1. Carly Viland says:

Amen! God does love us all.

  • Lavonous Byars says:

Broken things is a beautiful song. I can only imagine the emotions that went through Matthew West’s mind when he wrote this song. I do believe that everything that is given to us is a gift from God. This song like a blanket of God’s love wrapped around me through the lyrics. It is one of my favorites. Every lyric to this song describes my life in some way. Just about every time I hear it I break in tears. I can’t even sing it to praise God because it tells me so much of myself and shows me a mirror. God with endless-love. When I finish this race I would gladly receive the crown that he promised me. For every time this life brings me pain, My God will replace it with joy. Amen.

      Such a wonderful song!

  • Linda Edelen says:

I’m horrible at remembering the lyrics to songs and it’s no different with Broken Things. The lyrics have moved my heart. God must want me to know it because I go to sleep at night with the music and ‘some’ of the lyrics in my head. I wake up through the night with this song in my head, and I wake up in the mornings with these lyrics running through my mind. It goes on all day long, for months now. I may not be able to be used the way I originally thought but God can make SOMETHING out of nothing and use it to His glory. I AM YOURS!

    1. Carly Viland says:

Amen! God will use you. He has a plan!

  • Lain says:

At a very young age my son accepted Jesus he was baptized a few years later. He had a thirst to spread Gods love.
His early teens were dark and dangerous. He chose gangs and drugs.
I would pray and pray and ask for prayer. I’d pleed and cry and walk the floor at night asking God to cast away the evile and danger that was swalling my son. Gods child. For many years I couldn’t understand why this was happening. Why would God let this happen.
This song reminded me we all have a path we have choices. Gods grace allowes our worst choice to be his glory.
I still pray for my son,but I pray with hope and faith, instead of despair.

  • CHADRACK says:

It’s a great song..I came here for the lyrics especially the second part after an evening of very overflowing grace…..

“The pages of history they tell me it’s true
That it’s never the perfect; it’s always the ones with the scars that You use
It’s the rebels and the prodigals; it’s the humble and the weak
    The misfit heroes You chose
Tell me there’s hope for sinners like me”….

I have been struggling with some besetting weaknesses and I had to lead a corporate prayer meeting….I was afraid that people will not come but amazingly we had 9 visitors and I gracefully shared the good news of Jesus Christ….It was a very awesome evening. …

After we had tea with two sisters and one to whom I shared the good news a year ago testified to us that the spirits which used to attack her never did again since the day she accepted Christ as Lord and Savior. ..she also told us she had recently shared the gospel with a friend of hers that he even want to come to church. …we praised and prayed to God. …

Pray for us as we seek to seek the lost at our campus…Am in Africa (Burundi )….thanks.

The second part of the song is on my current whatsapp status. ..great lyrics
