Musical Bridges: Bridging Cultures through Music & Interactive Learning

10:00 AM - 11:30 AM

The vision of Musical Bridges is, “To see all people groups united and loving each other well. Through music and interactive learning of cultures, children become aware, compassionate and united. Our future peace and prosperity rides upon what and how children learn today.” Each class starts with a group music circle, where students work together to create rhythms, improvise songs and play instruments in new ways. Music Circles are a neutral setting where language is sound, and culture is defined by listening and sharing space. When students unite to play in harmony, they naturally learn skills necessary for successful group work. Our summer series features the country & culture of India! We have been working with international students at local universities to develop curriculum authentic to each culture it represents. The 5 class series will be held Saturday mornings at the TAK Music Venue is located off of HWY 10. Students entering 1st - 4th grade are welcome to join the fun! Filled with numerous positive messages for every age, this humorous musical is sure to entertain all who attend. Trollwood’s production of Freaky Friday is proudly sponsored by Bell Bank. “An amazingly talented team of artists, led by Artistic Director, Michael Walling, will be guiding our students through an educational process that will culminate with a funny and emotionally uplifting family-friendly performance,” states Kathy Anderson, Executive Director of Trollwood and Bluestem. Performance dates are set for July 11-13, 17-20, 24-27, 2019 at Bluestem Center for the Arts, home of Trollwood Performing Arts School, 801 50th Ave S, Moorhead, MN. Further details, as they become available, may be found at www.trollwood.org. Synopsis from Musical Theater International: “The new musical, Freaky Friday, based on the beloved 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films features a book by Bridget Carpenter – the co-executive producer and writer on the beloved TV hits, “Friday Night Lights” and “Parenthood” – and music and lyrics by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey – the Pulitzer Prizewinning composers of Next to Normal and If/Then. When an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies, they have just one day to put things right again. Freaky Friday is a heartfelt, comedic, and unexpectedly emotional update on an American classic. By spending a day in each other’s shoes,  and Ellie come to appreciate one another’s struggles, learn self-acceptance, and realize the immeasurable love and mutual respect that bond a mother and daughter.”
