After 45 years in Christian radio, it’s time for me to retire. This Friday will be my final day at Life 97.9. I didn’t set out to make my career in radio, at first it was just something fun to do. But I guess God had other plans, and I ended up working at six different Christian radio stations across the upper Midwest, landing here in Fargo a little over three years ago.

It’s been a real privilege to work for Northwestern Media. Prior to Life 97.9, I managed Life 101.9 in Waterloo, IA, for 19 years, which makes a total of over 22 years with Northwestern. It really is an outstanding organization, and you can be thankful that your local Christian station here is a part of this network.

My hope and prayer is that you will continue to listen to and support Life 97.9. A new manager will be named soon, and that person will take this ministry to the next level of professionalism and community impact. It’ll be exciting to see where God leads this ministry next!

Thank you for allowing me to serve here in the Red River Valley with you these past 3½ years. It’s been a pleasure and a privilege. And I’m looking forward to the next chapter for my wife and me. Always remember to support the organizations that minister to you. That list starts with your church, and hopefully includes the local Christian station that you listen to every day.
Thanks for being a part of the Life 97.9 listening family!

Yours in Christ,

Doug Smith
Station Manager
