Winters are always challenging in North Dakota and this winter is no exception. It’s far from over yet. This sure makes me appreciate a working furnace!

However, not only are there some without a furnace, but they also don’t have a home. It’s easy to lose track of the reality that there are homeless people struggling to find warmth right here in the Red River Valley. I am so thankful that there are homeless shelters that can offer that warmth during such a cold, cold month.

These shelters are not-for-profit, which means a large portion of their funding comes through donations. As I’ve spoken with the directors of some of these shelters, they are reporting that the need for shelter is acute, yet they do whatever needs to be done to create a safe space because they don’t want to turn anyone away into this brutal winter weather.

These shelters need our help. This month, Life 97.9 has launched “Help for Winter Warmth”, a campaign that gives you the opportunity to provide a warm bed and hot meals to someone in need. It takes anywhere from $40 to $65 a night to provide that. If you’re willing to get involved, you can make a donation directly to the homeless shelter of your choice through our website. How many warm nights can you provide?

There are so many causes for homelessness; losing a job, mental illness, substance abuse, domestic violence, eviction, and the list goes on. Many of these shelters also offer counseling to help people get on their feet again. Your donation can go a long way toward changing someone’s life. Click on this link and make your gift today.

As you give, remember the words of Jesus from Matthew 25:40, “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”

Thank you, God bless you, and stay warm!

Yours in Christ,
