In Matthew chapter 17, Jesus was transfigured before the disciples. They saw His divine self in power and glory. Although Jesus walked the earth in His three year ministry in a body looking just like ours, in Him was all of the divinity they saw that day.
Has transfiguration ever happened to you? In Romans 12:1-2, we read that we are not to be conformed to this world, but be transformed. The word “conformed” in the Greek is where we get the word “scheme” from. The Devil has a scheme in this world away from God to trick you from believing in Him and he tries to get you to sin.
The word “transformed” is the same word used in Matthew 17 for transfigured.
When was the last time you were transformed or transfigured? We walk the earth with the same human bodies that Jesus had. Scripture says that inside of us we have the mind of Christ, the Holy Spirit lives in us, the Kingdom of God is in us, we’re covered in the blood of Jesus, our names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, we have gifts and ministries, we’re sealed with the promise of the Holy Spirit, and Christ is in you, the hope of glory.
Every time we “live Jesus”, we transfigure the Christ in us to someone else. The light of God is shown to all and is easily seen. We prove our transformed life! Every time we sin, we conform to this world and the schemes of the Devil.
At times we go through the day going from conformed to transformed over and over. Yes, we are all sinners saved by grace. The goal here is to be aware of all that God has put in you and stay focused on living transformed or transfigured, getting more and more Christ-like all of the time.
