No one wants to let worry get the best of them, but so often our days are spent in battle with the “what ifs” and worst case scenarios that are seemingly on auto-repeat in our brains.  You’re not alone –  that’s me too.  Whether it’s safety of loved ones, heath, workplace drama, or anything else that weighs too heavily on your mind, there is hope to beat it.  Here are 3 things I’ve found to be helpful.

1. Breathe

Intentionally take one minute to breathe deeply.  No matter how busy you are, one minute won’t make or break your day, but it might make the next hour easier on your mind.

2. Tell a confidant 

There is something freeing about letting someone else in that really helps.  I’ve found that 2 things happen when I verbalize my worries to a trusted friend.  Hearing myself verbalize my worries often makes them sound ridiculous, and then there is someone who can weigh in on your worries with advice and a non-biased approach.

3. Pray

Maybe God is the only person you feel like you can be vulnerable enough with right now.  Start there.  If you have the privacy, maybe you treat God like He’s a human in the room and pray out loud.  I’ve found the more I say, “I’m worried about ____” out loud, the less I find their grip in my heart.

I hope you live the kind of life that is so full of trust in the Lord that worry can’t find a foothold in your heart. On those days when worry starts to win, remember what Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount:

“Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?”  – Matthew 6:27
