Going through the motions doesn’t energize anyone. Complacency won’t change the world. And, keeping your light hidden doesn’t glorify God.

Maybe you can remember the dreams you had at one point – dreams to shine your light a little brighter. Then “life” happened. You got busy with your spouse, kids, work and laundry and you lost sight of your dreams. What dreams did you have? What dreams do you have? What do you want to do? What are your strengths and God-given talents? How can you make the world a better place?

When I attended my first leadership conference in 1992, one of the speakers really touched my heart and as she spoke, this thought popped into my head: “I would love to do what she does!” That thought was immediately followed by another thought: “But I could never do that.” Guess what I did next? I buried that dream for 17 years.

When I re-discovered that dream in 2009, I didn’t know exactly how to get started as an inspirational speaker. But I took one step, and then another and another, and eventually God paved the way for me to speak to a wide variety of audiences across the nation. When someone tells me how their life changed because of something I shared, I know this is my gift and by sharing it with others, I’m letting my light shine for God.

How can you start dreaming again? How can you let your light shine even brighter?

  •  Start dreaming again … in all areas of life. Maybe at age 48 you decide to be in the best health of your life at age 50? Maybe you want to travel to all 50 states and every continent by the time you are 70? Maybe you’ve overcome generations of abuse and want to help others experiencing what you lived through? All of this is possible; I have individual stories of each of these dreams that prove it.
  • Ask “What if.” These two words will continue to challenge you to think bigger and broader. You just may stumble upon a seed God has planted within you.
  • Take one step toward a dream. You may not know exactly “what” or exactly “how” but start taking steps toward something that matters. Every step creates momentum and God does a great job of opening the right doors and closing the wrong ones.

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
