If you have even been around a small child you have probably witnessed how loving they are and how they come running to you with open arms. Full of joy and excitement.
I recently spent a few days with my 18 month old niece. She would run to me with open arms. Ready to receive love at any moment. Always ready to accept whatever I wanted to give her whole heartedly.
It amazes me how much joy and innocence children seem to exude. So willing to learn and accept. Willing to abandon what they thought before and trust what you offer them now. I can’t help but wonder if that is part of the meaning when Jesus explains that we should receive the kingdom of God like a little child. Put aside our past, accept his love and forgiveness. Wholeheartedly follow Him.
After seeing a child embrace something so fully, I find myself meditating on the verses in Luke 18: 15-17.
15 People were also bringing babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”
Let’s receive the kingdom of God like a little child. Let’s fully embrace the grace and forgiveness He is pouring out for us.
