Where I Belong

Building 429

Sometimes it feels like I’m watching
From the outside
Sometimes it feels like I’m breathing
But am I alive
I won’t keep searching for answers
That aren’t here to find

All I know is I’m not home yet
This is not where I belong
Take this world and give me Jesus
This is not where I belong

So when the walls come falling
Down on me
And when I’m lost in the current
Of a raging sea
I have this Blessed Assurance
Holding me

One story about "Where I Belong"

  • Linda LaMie says:

Two years ago I went through a procedure which involved inserting two wire leads into my spine, a step in the process to alleviate excruciating pain in my feet and legs. It went terribly wrong and I was rushed into emergency neuro-surgery to release blood pooling in my spine. The outlook was dismal; there was a great probability I would be leaving a paraplegic.

After surgery, I was able to move my feet. In a few weeks, I learned to walk with a walker. Soon, my bodily functions returned. Finally, I was able to return to work.

Within days, my husband was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma and needed to have a rhinectomy. After 20 hours of surgery, his nose and half of his neck were removed. He was brought to Intensive Care. Visiting him in the hospital was painful: my heart ached seeing my mate suffering and I had a difficult time walking the halls because-for some reason- I had torn the meniscus in my knee and needed immediate surgery.

Life hurled heart-aching situations in our family, transportation issues, house difficulties…the list went on. I wondered what could come next.

Knee surgery was completed and I returned to his bedside to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. Within days, my best friend was gone.

I knew our Heavenly Father sees every tear and never leaves His children who have put their trust in Him. I clung to Christ, my Rock. I was numb on the outside, but Jesus gives Hope.

My daughter chose the song, “Where I Belong” and a dear friend awesomely sang it at my husband’s funeral. This world is not fair. It’s filled with heartache, destruction, and death. Yet, God has a purpose, a plan for each of us. In a world of darkness, His light shines true.

This world in NOT ours as Believers in Christ. It does not have our citizenship. We belong to Him, so let His light shine through us here on earth. Let us store up treasures in Heaven. Let us share His Good News. Let our hearts cry: “YES! Just give me Jesus!”
