Live to give
By: Teresa Lewis
The 7 Mindsets are a culmination of a research project asking the question, what is it that the happiest, most successful people have in common? It is the way you think that leads to a life of happiness, success, fulfillment and meaning. This month, we are focusing on mindset #6, Live to Give.
Let’s explore mindset #6: Live to Give
Adopting a Live to Give mindset is about making a difference in the world. The fundamental concept is giving of our time and our energy. Sometimes we think we have to give in big, grandiose ways, but it could be giving your money or your time in whatever way works for you. At times, this mindset can be demonstrated by providing a listening ear to someone who needs it, even when you have more pressing things to do.
The more profound insight into this mindset is about aligning your purpose and passion and giving the world the best version of you. If we live our best life, fully utilizing our God-given talents and gifts, then we are giving our best selves to the world.
Some people discover their talents and passions at a young age, yet a lot of us may not figure this out until we are in our 30’s or 40’s when we start doing some soul-searching. We need to figure this out for ourselves and encourage our kids to think about how they want to make a difference in the world.
The researchers who discovered The 7 Mindsets learned that most of us approach life in a manner that is in direct opposition to the mindsets that will bring us happiness and success.
One example would be selfishness; society tells us that we deserve life to be ‘all about us’ and to have the latest, the greatest, the newest and the flashiest. And, many of us think that “when I get more I will give more.” This goes against what the happiest and most successful people practice and what the Bible tells us. It’s easy to get caught up in the things of this world, but by changing your focus to helping others, you make a difference and you feel good.
Here is a practical idea for you to implement now. Approach today knowing that you have a job to do – you are meant to be a light in this dark world and you have gifts you need to share with others. Get out there and share them! Every step creates momentum.
If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
1 Peter 4:11
Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.
